On 23rd September, 2026 we were privileged to welcome Akeem Rudder, Autism Exercise Specialist and Inclusion and Disability Educator at IncludeU Sports Academy, to speak to our club.
Akeem shared his passion for supporting persons with disabilities in Barbados and the meaningful difference his work makes in the lives of his clients and their families.
His presentation deepened our understanding of autism spectrum disorder, highlighting the diverse experiences and support needs of autistic people. He reminded us that inclusion means recognising each person’s strengths and creating opportunities for everyone to participate.
Akeem challenged community organisations to take four practical steps:
🤝 Welcome: Make clubs, events and activities accessible, flexible and welcoming to persons with disabilities.
💡 Learn: Build disability awareness among members, staff and volunteers.
🌍 Partner: Support organisations already working with families and communities.
🏅 Create opportunities: Help persons on the spectrum participate in sport, recreation, education and community life.
We commend Akeem for his dedication, compassion and commitment to service. Thank you for inspiring us to help build a more inclusive Barbados where everyone feels welcomed, valued and able to thrive.
