(72-hole Aquaponics System with a tank for the fish)

Through a district grant The Rotary Club of Barbados South (RCBS) sought to achieve the following project objectives:
  • To establish two (2) aquaponics systems in two (2) primary schools in Barbados.
  • To expose primary school aged children (aged 4 – 11 years) to aquaponics farming for the sustainable growth of healthy and safe foods.
  • To demonstrate water conservation at a small scale in agriculture.
Project Activity:
Through our partnership with Adams Aqualife, experts in Aquaponics in Barbados and the wider Caribbean, two (2) 72-hole aquaponics systems were established, one (1) for each primary school. This included a tank to house and grow the fish, filters, a small pump and seedlings for planting.

(Tank for the Fish)

The RCBS had previously installed shade houses and water tanks that facilitate support for the aquaponics systems under its Agrokids Programme. Planting of seedlings has been delayed at one of the primary schools. This is the result of infrastructural foundation work that was needed after its necessity came to light after some heavy rainfall in the area. This has now been rectified.
