Barbados Association for Supported Employment
Barbados Association for Supported Employment (BASE) has long been a champion for inclusive employment in Barbados, working to ensure that young adults with disabilities are equipped with the skills, confidence, and support systems needed to thrive in the workforce.
Currently there are ten (10) young adult participants. Recognizing the importance of this mission, Rotary Club of Barbados South (RCBS) has collaborated with the organization to strengthen its capacity and expand its reach.
As part of the initiative, RCBS members undertook the refurbishment of the BASE facility by repainting the exterior of the building. This effort not only improved the visual appeal of the space but also fostered a renewed sense of pride and dignity among staff and programme participants.
In addition to the building upgrades, the project saw the reactivation of the backyard garden area. Once underutilized, this space has been transformed into a functional and engaging environment that supports the institution’s culinary programme.

A key highlight of the project was the establishment of an aquaponics system, introducing participants to a sustainable method of food production that combines aquaculture and hydroponics.
This system not only supports the cultivation of fresh produce but also provides a valuable educational tool, exposing participants to environmentally responsible practices and potential livelihood opportunities in sustainable agriculture.
Through this outreach initiative, RCBS has helped to create a more vibrant, functional, and forward-thinking space for BASE.
