Club Meeting 1st Feb Recap
On Wednesday, February 1st, the feature presentation of the Club Meeting was delivered by Ms. Marsha-Ann Clarke, the Founder of Youth Equipped to Achieve! Inc. (YEA! Barbados) and Consultant to the Owen Arthur Agrokids Initiative in Primary Schools. Ms. Clarke played an essential role in the Rotary Club of Barbados South’s application to the UNDP’s GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP), and as such, RCBS was awarded $10,000 BDD for the execution of a Grant Writing Workshop and school assessments for the expansion of the Agrokids Initiative.
The three Rotary clubs in Barbados annually host a Mini Model United Nations (MUN) Assembly for secondary school students. However, due to COVID the last assembly was held in 2020. MUN exposes students to the topical international issues being addressed by the international community, creates awareness of the substantive considerations attached to those issues as well as the respective country positions taken based on unique national interests by different countries in the General Assembly of the UN.
Thankfully, MUN has returned this year for its 9th Assembly. Each participating student (referred to as a colleague in this forum) immediately becomes a Minister after selecting a country and is charged with researching and presenting on how their adopted country functions within the international space: regarding their resources, border relations, need for and sourcing of financing as well as their effect and positioning on key global matters such as climate change and sourcing resources within their maritime spaces.
It is an extraordinary opportunity for students to become immersed in the workings of a multilateral environment and continues this Saturday, February 12th.
Fellow Rotarians! Yes! It has been confirmed! Jennifer Jones, Rotary International’s first female president has included our beloved Barbados in her tour of duty in February 2023.
She will be our featured guest speaker at a Dinner being hosted by the Rotary Clubs in Barbados to celebrate 118 years of Rotary International, at Mahogany Ridge, St James, February 23rd at 6:00pm. All are invited!
This is an occasion that is not to be missed and we look forward to enjoying it with you!
Rotary International
In response to the worsening humanitarian crises in Ukraine and Pakistan, the trustees of The Rotary Foundation voted in January to create two new, targeted funds that will continue offering lifesaving aid to those affected.
The Ukraine Response Fund and the 2022 Pakistan Flood Response Fund will be separate from the general Disaster Response Fund, which had previously been supporting relief efforts for both crises.
Established in 2020, the long-term goal of Rotary District 7030's Childhood Obesity Prevention (COP) program is to promote, advocate and facilitate education and engagement and activities among clubs and communities in the Caribbean in tackling childhood obesity.
As part of its ongoing commitment to curbing and preventing childhood obesity, Rotary District 7030 launched its first obesity awareness campaign titled ‘7030 Moves for COP’ in January 2022 with several activities for clubs and members to participate in and support.

Our Rotaractors are looking forward to participating in this year's Model United Nations Assembly, hosted jointly by the Rotary Clubs in Barbados. Their role will be to mentor the delegates, lending insight and advice as they tackle current global climate change issues. Pictured are President Brian with Rtr. Jamie (MUN alumni), Secretary Cadesha, and Rtr. Tre at the opening session on Saturday, February 4th. According to all reports, they are ready and raring to make an impact.
