The project is expected to transform the former Barbados Railway into a paved bicycle and pedestrian path accessible to walkers, runners and cyclists. It is also intended to help showcase the island’s natural environment as it traverses landscapes, touching gullies and crossing rivers such as the Constitution River and the Three Houses Spring.

The trail is expected to feature a number of trees to provide shade and bear fruits such as grafted mangoes and avocadoes. Eventually, the selection will widen through the importation of other varieties to not only provide a healthy snack to future users but underscore the importance of food security for the island.

In addition to food sustainability, the project will contribute to the island’s economy by allowing farmers to sell produce to users of the trail while providing opportunities for businesses involved in Bike repairs, eBike Rental and guided tours. The short presentation was concluded with suggestions from Mr. Gibbs for Rotarians to contribute to the project.
