 “Question:

Is there a ‘silver bullet’ that will boost Rotary membership?

Answer:

Engagement.  I quit my Rotary club because I didn’t have anything to do. Then they asked me if I’d chair a committee…I stayed because I thought it was an important role. “The key is to give people the opportunity to contribute to their community.”
– RI President Ron Burton

 Spotlight News

Rotary Club of Barbados South

Let the games begin! Amid peals of laughter and ever-changing rules, Rotarians, Rotaractors and guests competed for the coveted trophy of the day at the Club's Picnic on Sunday April 30 at the Silver Sands Park. Emerging champion Team Hot Rods led the other teams Yardie Bajans, Challengers and Spartans by a slim margin. Imagine games with biscuits, crackers, rice, plastic cones, tennis balls, stockings, and whistling! Thanks to Games Leader Jamalia we had them all!
The picnic was certainly an opportunity to catch up, kick-back and relax, listen to music and have a good meal. Definitely needs repeating! Looking forward to the next Rotary fellowship event!!
Fellow Rotarians, after two years of 'lockdowns' and echoes of 'unprecedented times', the Summer Luau Cruise is BACK!

Saturday, May 20th at 5PM onboard the MV Dream Chaser

General tickets are $80 and could be ordered by contacting a number below:
(246) 230-2900, (246) 234-2639, (246) 826-6730, (246) 850-0246

Your usual support in spreading the word and promoting the cruise would be appreciated as the proceeds of the Summer Luau Cruise goes towards the club's Back to School project.

How the CART Fund is fueling Alzheimer’s research
Nancy Rogers seemed too young to have Alzheimer's disease. But in 1999, her husband, Norm, knew something was wrong. First, she misplaced a couple of pocketbooks. Then, she started getting lost on the 11-mile commute from her office to her home in Raleigh, North Carolina.

"I would get a call from a highway patrolman 60 miles away in Greensboro saying that your wife is here at 7-Eleven, and she's lost," remembers Rogers.

ADOPT A VILLAGE MUSALABA:

The Rotaract Club of South Barbados, in partnership with the Rotaract Club of Barbados and The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise, through the Rotaract Club of Naguru (in Kampala, Uganda), made a donation of two school benches to the St. Stephen's Musalaba School in Uganda.

The school is the only school within a 6 km radius of the a small (Koch Koo), Amuru community, and since 2016 the Rotaract Club of Naguru and the Rotary Club of Kampala Naguru have been making several improvements to the school to eliminate educational barriers and to make the school more sanitary and accommodating to students.

The Rotaract Club of South Barbados was proud to support this project and in recognition of the donation two benches at the school were inscribed with the club's name.
