on January 13th 2026 RCBS celebrated its 40th Charter Anniversary. A number of activities were scheduled to commemorate this significant milestone. The week of events started with a church service at the St Patrick's Roman Catholic Cathedral followed by fellowship over brunch.
On January 13th, chairman of the Charter Committee VP PP Stephen and PDG Sonya appeared on Morning Barbados and made us proud as they discussed the significance of this achievement, while showcasing the projects and activities with which RCBS has been involved over the years. They quite competently articulated the significance and impact of RCBS projects and that of Rotary International.
We had the honour of being joined by District 7030 Governor Soraya Warner-Gustav who scheduled her visit to Barbados to be coincident with our celebrations.
On Wednesday 14th, the District Governor arrived in Barbados to the usual welcome by Presidents and PDG's then joined us for our Charter fellowship quiz night with the other two Rotary clubs in Barbados which doubled as the official welcome event for her visit. This event was well supported by Rotarians and from all accounts, a good time was had by all.
Last but by no means least was our biggest event, our Charter Dinner and Awards Ceremony. It was a tremendous honour to have three of our four surviving charter members present. Henry Viera and Hemraj Ramdath both reside in Canada but used to opportunity to celebrate with us. In fact, Hemraj not only visited us especially for the charter activities but also brought along district 7040 PDG Teresa Whitmore, AG PP Jane Cutrice and two others to participate in our week of activities.
It was a spectacular event, that was held on the beautiful grounds of Gun Hill Signal Station. The well catered event featured the music of members of the Barbados Youth Symphony Orchestra. Our longstanding guest Lynn Rollins was pinned and is now Rotarian Lynn. President Elect Kerryann was pinned for the first time as a Paul Harris Fellow while Director Morexa was pinned PHF+2. All the past presidents also received awards.
Our long service segment served to recognize Rotarians with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and our charter member who still serves with us after 40 years. PP Prakash was given the special honour of being recognized as "Member Emeritus." From this point forward all Rotary related expenses will be borne by the club on his behalf.
The following is a link to a slideshow of all awards that were presented and the associated recipients.
It was an immense privilege that the district Governor was present to witness it all, along with AG Paul, PDG David, PDG Milton, PDG Sonya and the other two club presidents. PDG David was one of the Rotarians who initiated the charter of RCBS and he continues to support all of our activities while proving to be a valuable resource on Rotary matters. The distinct honour of "Honorary Lifetime Member" was bestowed on PDG David as a mark of gratitude and appreciation for his continued support.
40 years of Service above self. 40 years of doing good in the world. 40 years of developing acquaintance as an opportunity for service. 40 years of high ethical standards in business and professions. 40 years of recognizing the worthiness of all useful occupations. 40 years of dignifying each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve. 40 years of applying the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life. 40 years of advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons, united in the ideal of service.
Well done RCBS!!!! Cheers to 40 more!!

Rotary Club of Barbados South - Spotlight
Joint clubs Quiz and Welcome of the District Governor
The Official Welcome Reception for the Rotary District 7030 Governor, Soraya Warner-Gustave, took place in the form of a Joint Rotary Meeting & Quiz Night, hosted by the Rotary Club of Barbados South in collaboration with the Rotary Clubs of Barbados and Barbados West.
The friendly rivalry of the quiz night also served as a part of the week of celebration of the 40th Charter Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Barbados South. After an intense battle that was punctuated by cycles of dancing and singing, the team with the PDG's came out as the overall winners.
MUN 2026
On January 17th at UN House, the Rotary Clubs in Barbados in partnership with the United Nations opened the 13th cohort of Model United Nations.
Thirty-six students from the nation's public and private secondary schools have signed up to be country representatives.
We’ve done a Model UN General Assembly and a Model UN Security Council. This year, with the prevalence of conversations on tariffs and trade, we are doing our first Model World Trade Organization (WTO).
Thank you to the Resident United Nations Coordinator Simon Spingett and the British High Commissioner Simon Mustard, who came out to support and in the case of the UN coordinator, welcome us to his ‘house.’
Barbados' Ambassador to the United Nations World Trade Organization, Matthew Wilson took time from his vacation to share his journey with the delegates.
We are currently in week three and the delegates have already begun to show tremendous potential as we continue with what is expected to be another successful installation of Model UN under the guidance of PP Lisa and her team.

Bridgetown Feeding
Individuals who assisted at Bridgetown Feeding (PP Michael Trotman is missing).
Another successful installation of Bridgetown feeding was completed on January 26th 2026. IPP Terry, PP Michael Trotman and Rtn Rosanne provided the meals on behalf of RCBS. We were able to serve a total of 112 meals.
We had a small team this month but with the help of the caterer Renee, meal distribution happened quickly and efficiently. Thank you to everyone who came out to assist. This project makes a significant impact on the lives of needy Barbadians and none of this will be possible without you.
It is with pride that we acknowledge the Rotary Club of Barbados South’s recognition from Rotary International as a 100% Foundation Giving Club for the 2024–25 Rotary year!
These accolades were presented to the Club by District 7030 Governor Soraya Warner-Gustave and included the Rotary Foundation Certificate of Recognition, the 100% Foundation Giving Club Banner, and the EREY Banner.
Thank you to everyone who generously contributed to our club being a 100% Foundation Giving Club in 2024-25.
Your collective commitment has not only advanced the End Polio Now mission, but has also earned our club proud recognition. The District Governor presented these to RCBS on behalf of 2024-25 Rotary International President Stephanie A. Urchick and the Chair of The Rotary Foundation Trustees Mark Daniel Maloney.
This is a true reflection of great participation, shared purpose, and Service Above Self. Well done, team. The tremendous effort by then Director of Foundation Ryan to motivate giving has been recognized at the highest level.
