 Spotlight News

Rotary Club of Barbados South

DG Leslie and the Presidents of the Rotary Clubs in Barbados accompanied by ADG Peter Thompson on their courtesy call to Her Excellency Dame Sandra Mason.
A cocktail reception was held on Friday December 9th to officially welcome DG Leslie to Barbados. The event was hosted at Mount Gay Visitors Center with Rotarians, friends and family in attendance from all local Rotary Clubs.
DG Leslie and some RCBS members visited the AgroKids Project at Arthur Smith Primary School to get a first hand appreciation of the gardening efforts of the students at the school. The students happily watered their produce and quickly identified the various crops to those in attendance.
On Saturday, 10th December the Classical Best of Youth and the Barbados National Youth Symphony Orchestra made a grand post-pandemic return to the concert hall with a bright tribute to acclaimed, Joy Knight, GCM on her 21st anniversary of leadership of the Orchestra. Pictured above is one of the several highlights from the Classical Best of Youth IX: Ode to Joy.
The Classical Best of Youth IX: Ode to Joy was so nice we had to do it twice. Pictured above is a continuation of some of the highlights from our signature event.
Members and guests gathered on December 12th to observe the unveiling of a Peace Pole at The Lodge School in St John. This was a collaboration between the Rotaractors and our club and formed part of the final day of activities during DG Leslie's visit to Barbados.
The image above shows school officials, teachers and Interactors that were present for the unveiling of a Peace Pole at The Lodge School.
The Hamper Packing Project got off in full swing bright and early on Saturday morning December 17th. The volunteers completed the mighty task in record breaking time and in usual Rotary fashion engaged in brief fellowship before commencing the delivery of the hampers.
President Brian and PIS Nikita welcomed the club members and friends to their home for an EPIC Holiday Party on December 18th. This Christmas event was indeed memorable with lots of laughter, camaraderie, food and drinks.

Wherever disaster strikes, health facilities are a critical component of emergency preparedness. Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) invest in organizations like the Barbados Family Planning Association, led by Executive Director Anderson Langdon and CFO PDG Sonya Alleyne, so that they can be prepared to stay open during natural disasters and serve as sustainable disaster response hubs.

Rotary International

Mexico - Rotary Club of Guadalajara International in March began training girls from the city’s underserved communities in the Korean martial art of taekwondo.

Our Host Organizing Committee has been working diligently to ensure our 2023 District Conference is all you expect and more! I encourage all of you to register early and take advantage of the early bird rates. Rotaract Club of South Barbados
The Rotaract Club of South Barbados conducted this year’s Charity Drive at the annual Kloth Pop Up Shop & Expo held on December 10.

The fundraising venture took the form of a Thrift Shop and Gift Wrapping Station where patrons purchased new/pre loved clothes and had their gifts wrapped just ahead of the holiday season. It was a great experience for Rotaractors and Interactors alike to not only raise funds but share about the club’s projects and activities
The images above capture some of the volunteers that participated in the Kloth Pop Up Shop & Expo.
Congratulations to Rotaractor Shanae on her first solo performance with the Barbados National Youth Symphony Orchestra! Her performance came at the recently held Rotary Club of Barbados South's Best of Youth Concert IX - 'Ode to Joy' last Saturday.

Shanae, your talent and hard work have truly shone through. We are so proud of you and can't wait to see where your musical journey takes you next!
