 Spotlight News

Rotary Club of Barbados South

The 2023 District 7030 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) were held virtually and in-person on January 14th and 15th 2023. For the Barbados leg, sessions were held at the 3W’s Oval, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. The primary goal of RYLA is to help Interactors and Rotaractors between the ages of 14 and 30 to develop their leadership skills while making valuable connections amongst their peers. This year, PDG Sonya Alleyne ably led the two-day workshops that covered topics such as the Four- Way Test, Community Needs and Assessment, Childhood Obesity, Empowering Girls, and Climate Change. Discussions were certainly spirited as our younger service-minded individuals got involved and made their voices heard. Gratitude must be shown to the District 7030 team for organizing and executing this impactful event and to the local arms of Rotary for ensuring that our youth were involved.
Our charter project, in recognition of our charter anniversary (January 13th) was the enhancement of the playground located at the rear of the Hawthorne Methodist Church last Saturday January 14, 2023. Much progress was made by the end of the day. The lawn was cut, fallen tree branches were removed, walls and equipment cleaned and painted, and repairs initiated for see-saws and the slide. Project completion is planned for this Saturday, January 21st. Pictured above are some of the 20 volunteers who came out during the day to serve and share Rotary fellowship.

Rotary International President-elect R. Gordon R. McInally called for members to capture the world's attention and lead the way toward possibilities far beyond our current expectations. McInally, a member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, West Lothian, Scotland, revealed the 2023-24 presidential theme, Create Hope in the World, during the Rotary International Assembly in Orlando, Florida, USA, on 9 January.
