Rotary Club of Barbados South Installs a New Board
On June 28th the Rotary club of Barbados South celebrated its 40th Installation Ceremony at the Savannah Beach Club. This evening was meant to celebrate the achievements of the past year as well as mark the transition into the new Rotary cycle.
In a session very competently chaired by PP Peter Thompson, after a moving invocation by Rtn. Josephine Robinson, we had remarks from Francis Belle, the Chief Justice of Barbados (AG) who represented our patron Leslie Haynes SC Chief Justice of Barbados. We were then treated to a heart warming and very inspirational address by our guest speaker and now Honorary Rotarian Ms. Jenelle Skinner.
After dinner President Terry addressed us. After giving a very comprehensive review of an amazing Rotary year, she progressed to her awards. Certificates were awarded to all the outgoing board members to acknowledge their support over the past year. She then proceeded to name the South Stars; the people who were instrumental in leading projects, committees and major donors to the various club projects. The South Stars were as follows:

Every President has the right to award Paul Harris Fellowship to individuals who have made a significant contribution to Rotary. This year, President Terry used this privilege to bestow Paul Harris Fellowship on two indisputably deserving candidates PE Jacklyn Broomes and PP Marcell Murrell. She also used the opportunity to pin our newest Paul Harris Fellows PP George Conolly, PP Randolph Straughn and President Terry Hall herself who were all pinned by PDG Sonya.
In fine President Terry style, this year she named 2 Rotarians of the year. The Rotarians of the year for 2024/25 are Dir Ryan Best and Rtn Morexa-Martin-Gardiner.
Rotaract South President elect Melanie Trotman addressed us with a pre-recorded video; giving her intentions for the new Rotary year and congratulated President Terry and PE Jacklyn.
PE Jacklyn was then pinned and given her President's medal by President Terry; she then introduced her board. PDG Sonya pinned the incoming board.
There were are series of toasts and responses as well as a message from the incoming District Governor that was read by AG Paul.
PE now President Jacklyn addressed the audience then pinned our newest members Rotarian Wendel Scantlebury and Honorary Rotarians Jenelle Skinner and Lieutenant Colonel David Clarke. The session was ended with a comprehensive vote of thanks that was delivered by Dir now PE Kerryann Ifill. All in all it was a wonderful evening filled with lots of celebration and acknowledgement of our most active Rotarians and specially invited guests.

As we bring this Rotary year to a close, I am filled with a deep sense of gratitude and pride. It has been an honour to serve as President of the Rotary Club of Barbados South — a club whose commitment to service, fellowship, and impact never ceases to inspire.
This year, we faced challenges with resilience, embraced opportunities with boldness, and most importantly, stayed true to our Rotary values. From meaningful community projects to unforgettable moments of camaraderie and collaboration, we have made a difference — not just in our communities, but in one another’s lives.
None of this would have been possible without you — the passionate, dedicated members of RCBS. Thank you for your support, your ideas, your time, and your unwavering spirit of service.
As we pass the baton to the incoming leadership, let us carry forward the momentum we’ve built, the relationships we’ve strengthened, and the lessons we’ve learned. I am confident that the best is yet to come.

Previous Meeting Details
Wednesday June 4th 6:30pm In-Person
This meeting was our first for fellowship month as well as the final in-person meeting for the 2024/25 Rotary year. As a result, it was spent building relationship over lunch. We were encouraged to communicate with the individuals sitting near to us and discover details about them that is not widely known. These details were then shared with the wider group. It was refreshing and enlightening to discover new interesting things about people you have known well for a while.

This was a business meeting at which the Directors reported on the club activities.
As it relates to public image, Dir Mechelle congratulated us on achieving Platinum citation in the Public Image EPIC Awards.
Dir Kerryann indicated that the process has started for the Pinning of Wendel Scantlebury.
Dir Kemi invited us to view the Interact Awards on June 20th at which she hoped that Queen's College would be awarded. We were also reminded to support Rotaract South by assisting with their reading room at St Ambrose Primary as well as to attend their Handover ceremony at Mt Gay Visitor Centre on July 5th.
Dir Ryan was pleased to announce that we have attained our target of 50% sustaining members. This is in addition to our 100% EREY.
As regards projects, we were updated on the Agrokids projects, specifically the progress of the aquaponics system at Bay Primary. Agrokids schools were also invited to submit the names of teachers to join us for CPR/AED training.
Peace poles are outstanding at Harrison College, Princess Margaret Secondary and Barbados Community College. They are likely to be delayed until school reopens in September. The BCC delay was requested by the institution and is to be coupled with a tree planting effort at the campus.
The grant from Ross University to the Burns and Orthotics Trust was able to fund burn/scar pressure garments to 2 children for the next 3 months.
The equipment for the QEH pediatric unit have all arrived on island. Once everything is cleared, a ceremony will be arranged to facilitate proper handover to the Hospital.
There was no meeting scheduled for June 18th as it was replaced by a fellowship activity on June 21st to celebrate the end of a successful Rotary year.

Rotary Club of Barbados South
Aquaponics System At Arthur Smith Primary
In what has now become an expansion of our Agrokids program, we have successfully installed an aquaponics system at Arthur Smith Primary School. Below are images of the system being populated with seedlings by the students. The project is continuing at First Base and Bay Primary. Further updates will be provided as the project expands.
Clean up Barbados
In Recognition of World Environment day which was on June 5th 2025. Rotarians joined forces with other service groups to clean up Barbados on June 7th. This annual initiative is coordinated by the Future Centre Trust.
Members of our club assembled at Folkstone Marine park at 6:30am on Saturday June 7th to make our contribution to the effort. After a morning of beach and park cleaning, we enjoyed a small fellowship breakfast on the beach. Well done to all who participated.
CPR/AED Training
On June 21st, members and partners of the Rotary Club of Barbados South participated in a CPR/AED training session. The session was conducted by The Ross University School of Medicine and accredited by the American Heart Association.
Rotarians and Teachers representing the schools in our Agrokids initiative gained valuable hands-on experience in performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on infants and adults, including the use of the automatic external defibrillator (AED).
Upon completing a final practical assessment, participants are now certified by the American Heart Association as competent to conduct CPR/AED on adults, children and infants for a period of 2 years.
We can now safely experience cardiac arrest in the presence of PP Terry, PP Trevor, PE Kerryann, Dir Morexa, Rtn Josie, Rtn Vondi and our regular guest Lynn.
Bridgetown Feeding
Another successful Bridgetown feeding was held in Independence Square on June 30th. Extra special thanks to PP Peter, PP Richard and PP Vivian-Anne who sponsored the meals on behalf of RCBS. We served a total of 90 meals.
PP Prakash was absent this month but PP Randy took charge and led us through a smooth distribution. He also brought his wife, sister-in-law and mother-in-law to assist. Special thanks to PP Terry, PP Peter, PP Vivian-Anne, PP Richard and our usual reliable Rtn Josie who turned up and executed on behalf of the club. As usual, the fellowship was amazing.

June 15th 2025 marked 20 years of Rotary Action Groups.
Rotary Action Groups are independent, Rotary-affiliated groups made up of people from around the world who are experts in a particular field, such as economic development, peace, addiction prevention, the environment, or water.
Action groups offer their technical expertise and support to help clubs plan and implement projects to increase our impact, one of Rotary's strategic priorities. This support includes helping clubs find partners, funding, and other resources. Action groups can also help clubs and districts prepare grant applications, conduct community assessments, and develop plans to monitor and evaluate their projects. Anyone who wants to share their expertise to make a positive difference can join an action group. Only Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Rotary Peace Fellows can serve in leadership roles.

District 7030 Virtual Awards were held on June 30th. Rotary Club of Barbados South was recognized both on the individual and club level.
On the individual level, Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to PP Katrina Sam for her work as DEI Chair and PDG Sonya Alleyne who received two; one for her role as District Learning Facilitator and the other for her role as District Inter-Country Committee Chair. Congratulations ladies!!!
On the club level, 43 clubs applied for club excellence awards; of those 21 were awarded. The Rotary Club of Barbados South was granted a Gold Award of Excellence!!!! Well done!!
